Using the 2021/2022 Gender Equality Report Card, this free online discussion between West Coast LEAF and Disability Without Poverty will highlight key actions and inactions taken by the BC and federal government to address economic insecurity and access to healthcare. The presentation will focus on the intersectional experiences of people with disabilities and advancing a framework for ending poverty for people with disabilities in BC and Canada. Bety and Michelle will explore how communities can collaborate to advance gender equality for people with disabilities.

Using the Charter in CFCSA Cases for Parents’ Counsel

The panelists will discuss how parents’ counsel can use the Charter in family policing cases, otherwise known as child protection cases. This workshop will identify reviewable decisions, concerns regarding the disclosure of medical records under section 96 of the Child, Family and Community Service Act (CFCSA) as it relates to section 8 of the Charter, the procedure to initiate an application for Charter costs, and the constitutional implications of the “safety plan.”

Participants may claim up to 1.5 hours of CPD with the Law Society of BC.
