Is childcare a human right? Join us for the launch of our new project, Establishing a Right to Childcare, and participate in a conversation on the innovative work being done across the province in advocating for safe, accessible, and affordable childcare in BC.
DETAILS: There will be a short business Annual General Meeting followed by a panel discussion and a cocktail reception. We will be providing light refreshments and a cash bar. You are invited to bring a guest.
Moderated by Kendra Milne, West Coast LEAF’s Director of Law Reform, the discussion will explore how sections 7 and 15 of the Charter and international human rights law support a right to childcare.
PANELISTS:
- Iglika Ivanova is senior economist and public interest researcher at the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives, BC office.
- Lynell Anderson is a researcher and advocate for the rights of children, youth, women and families, with a focus on childcare.
- Janet Lucas is a Cree woman and mother of three children aged 22, 19, and 6, living in East Vancouver. She has firsthand experience trying to secure flexible and affordable childcare.
The doors will open at 5 p.m. The event is free of charge, but we ask that you RSVP by Sept. 25 online at WestCoastLeaf2015AGM.eventbrite.ca, email info@westcoastleaf.org or call 604-684-8772.
