In May 2018, West Coast LEAF wrote to the Minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs to call on the Canadian government to grant the full extension requested for the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. We highlighted the impossibility of properly investigating the systemic and institutional failures leading to so many tragic deaths and disappearances without adequate time for the Inquiry process.
