With the Pivot Legal Society, we made a complaint to the BC Ombudsperson regarding the Ministry of Housing and Social Development’s policy of reducing a parent’s shelter allowance when their child has been removed from their care. We argued that the policy made it more difficult for parents to get their kids back, increased parents’ risk of homelessness, and had disproportionate adverse effects on women. One year after our complaint was filed, the Ministry amended its policy. Read the submission.
